But first, coffee! (or tea)

Founded in 1829, this coffeehouse has still got it! They offer a great selection of traditional Portuguese pastries and coffee. Order at the bar for quick service. Try their "meia do leite", which is close to a cappuccino, and a few of the small pastries. Then walk down the walking-only street Rua dos Correeiros to the next stop.

💡

Get there early to beat the crowds (opens at 8am)

Tram 28E stop
Tram 28E stop

This old yellow tram is a fun ride through really narrow winding streets. (You can walk this instead if you prefer ~1 mile, just follow the tram's route.) Consider a 24 hour Carris/Metro pass, which covers the metro as well

💡

As with all public transport, watch your belongings carefully.

3
Miradouro da Graça
Miradouro da Graça

Wow! Enjoy a breathtaking view of Lisbon and the Tagus river next to the old church Igreja da Graça de Lisboa. Take a few minutes to soak in the atmosphere and fresh air.

4
Funicular do Graca
Funicular do Graca

A fun steep ride down the hill! Runs every 15 minutes, standing room only. There's also a stairway down if you prefer.

5
Lunch
Lunch

Walk to lunch through narrow meandering cobblestone streets with cool street art . There are several restaurants in the area. O Prego is a nice little place for a quick bite with some good seafood and vegetarian options. Save room for ice cream later!

6
Amazing ice cream
Amazing ice cream

Homemade gelato-like ice cream that uses real fruit and ingredients served in old fashioned style.

7
Baixa Chiado

You can walk uphill and work off your ice cream... or metro from the Rossio station (free with your Carris/metro day pass). Then walk about this hip area filled with cool cafes and small artisanal shops.

Walk/tram to yet another breathtaking viewing point of Lisbon and the river, only it's from another hill! On a clear day you can see the Miradouro da Graça from earlier, on the opposite hill.

Stroll through an urban garden
Stroll through an urban garden

Enjoy a little green break where locals relax. If you're with kids this is a great place to run around, play and climb old trees. There is also a nice artsy cafe in the park called Esplanada Cafe which serves great coffee, teas and snacks.

💡

On the last Saturday and last Monday of each month, there is an arts & crafts fair until 6pm

Walk down the happening district of Bairro Alto as the evening sets in. There are many restaurants and bars to choose from, and it's fun and safe to walk around with kids during the evening (it gets a little more rowdy after 10-ish when the bars start to get busy). We ate at the Estalagem dos Capotes Brancos where they had a few cute outdoor seating set up. Try the Arroz do Marisco (serves 2 people) which is a traditional rice and seafood stew, so good!
