Hike along the Santa Margarita river in mostly shaded trails and relax at multiple stream crossings while you dip your feet in the cool refreshing water (the water is usually only ankle to knee deep). Dogs are welcome on a leash- be mindful horses often go on this trail. Then grab lunch and take it to the dog friendly Belle Marie winery for a fun wine and picnic on their spacious grounds.

At the far end of the horse trailer parking section there’s a covered “booth” with a trail map (see photo). The trail that starts right a the booth runs parallel to the road, but the trail head that’s a little further to the left of that trail runs through a more secluded area and end up meeting with the first trail at the stream crossing.

This small family owned winery is a must visit! It’s both kid and dog friendly and offers a large outdoor and picnic area with shaded seating. But wait! There’s also a CASTLE on the grounds, which made us feel like we were in France sigh. Great wines, nice people and a relaxing fun atmosphere.
